Saturday 27th January

As well as having a successful day it was also a very enjoyable day to see so many people, young and old, coming together to play some fantastic music.

Adjudicator, Robert Nicholson (Bb Bass player with No1 brass band in the world, Cory) commented that it was noticeable how everyone on stage was smiling, showing how much they enjoyed the experience. He also expressed how good the standard was and whilst ‘the South’ was not as recognised for its brass bands as ‘the North’, the bands who played today could easily hold their own against any other bands from across the country. High praise indeed.

So how did the VCB bands do?

Well . . . they won . . .

Best Training Band

Best Youth Band

Best Youth Ensemble

The Training Band won best overall band

Emma Close (Trombone) received a gold award for her solo The Acrobat.

Naomi Selby-Grace received a gold award for best solo cornet

Jack Musselwhite (Drum kit player) won the cup for best instrumentalist of the day

Amy Cooke (Tenor Horn) won best soloist of the day – she played ‘Feelings’

So a big congratulations to all and especially to MD Mike Dunnings for all his hard work.

Also many congratulations to all the other bands and players who also won awards but above all enjoyed playing today.
