Verwood concert Brass welcomes both beginners and advanced players. We also offer the opportunity for those who have never played a brass instrument before to learn in our Acorns group. Both children and adults alike are welcome to join the Acorns group and instruments can be provided.

Once ready, members of the Acorns group can then move up into the Community Band.

Acorns Rehearse on Thursdays 6pm – 7pm.

If you would like to learn a brass instrument please go to the join a band page for more information.

As stated above, the Acorns not only welcomes children but adults as well. Here is a testimony from former acorn Lucy Thom:

In the Spring of 2014, my then 8 year old daughter joined the beginners’ group in Verwood Training Band, called The Acorns. Little did I realise then, that less than 2 years later, I too would be joining the Acorns as a completely novice Tenor Horn Player.

A number of key people playing in and running the Training Band had suggested I have a go – after all, I came along every week, so why not? Having never learnt a musical instrument before, I did feel a mixture of excitement and trepidation and I wondered how my 40 something brain would cope with this new challenge…

Well, nearly 2 years on, I continue to enjoy learning to play and everyone in the Training Band is very supportive and encouraging. I really look forward to our Monday Evening Practices and I feel so grateful to everyone who encouraged me to take on this new challenge. If you’d like to learn a brass instrument, do come and give it a go – whatever your age or lack of experience!
