Saturday 8th February

Flushed with success from the recent Wessex Brass Band Association Training Band Contest, the Verwood Training Band opened the concert in true ‘Wessex Champions’ style with a rousing rendition of the march “Slaidburn”.

The band, under the direction of conductor Mike Dunnings, continued to delight the audience with the rest of their contest winning performance pieces.

The concert also now includes Bill Ferrier’s new start group, the Acorns, as a regular feature. It is fantastic to see a new generation of players in the making.

And a special well done to Ethan and Edward who played their forthcoming Grade 1 exam piece, which takes some nerve in front of an audience let alone an examiner. Very well played and all the best for the exam.

The Training Band continued with performances of popular pieces, mainly from films, including some classic Disney but to close, because it was so good at the start, they raised the roof again with “Slaidburn”.

Many thanks to all that came along to support the band, and who availed themselves of some lovely home made cake, the raffle and purchases from the bric-a-brac stall, which all helps to raise funds to keep on providing this wonderful music-making resource.

Also many thanks to all the behind the scenes helpers – it couldn’t be done without you all. Go Team VCB!

The next concert is the Verwood Concert Brass Spring Concert at the Verwood Hub on Saturday 25th April where all of the bands will be performing. We look forward to seeing you there.
