Results are in for Verwood Town Band in Bugle, West of England Bandsman’s Festival!
What a fantastic day the Town Band had starting with an early rehearsal at the St Dennis bandroom followed by a quick journey to the Bandsman’s Festival in time for the draw. We were 4th in the programme and drawn number 4. We listened to the 3 bands before us who all sounded very impressive then it was our turn. It is an open air stage set about 6 foot in the air which can be vulnerable to crosswinds etc. Armed with pegs and music we were ready.
Kevin raised the baton and we were off to a good start, our soloists were fantastic and Variations on Laudate Dominum was going well. Our percussion section were spot on in the tricky parts with a debut performance for our 9 year old Oliver Lush Camps playing on stage with his Mum and Dad.
We reached the big finale and the piece came to a close, big smiles from our conductor Kevin and we took our applause from the audience.
It was a long wait for the results but in they came and we were overjoyed with a 1st place in the 3rd Section along with best player award in the section won by our Principal Cornet Steve Rowland.
