‘Heroes and Villains’ at Verwood Concert Brass
‘Heroes and Villains’ at Verwood Concert Brass
Although a couple of years ago the ‘Villain’ of the piece was Mother Nature who was threatening to literally take the land from under the band hall, this week Verwood Concert Brass celebrated the many ‘Heroes’ who have helped save the band hall from collapse.
Members of the two contesting bands – Verwood Concert Brass and Verwood Town Band – plus members of the Community Band and the Acorns Training Band officially re-opened the band hall on Wednesday 20th March, and treated many ‘Incredibles’ to a tour of the refurbishments along with refreshments and music from Verwood Concert Brass Ensemble.
Supporters from within the bands and the public, as well as the ‘Spiderman’ builders and VCB’s very own ‘Superwomen’ were praised by Band Chairman Helen Dunnings who said ‘There are too many people to thank individually but a special thanks should be made to Sally Burrows who had the confidence that we would raise the money and who along with Jane Smith did the majority of applications for grants. Thank you also to our builder Keith Shearing who has been working around band rehearsals to allow us to continue using the hall during the repairs.’
Helen went on to say that ‘Although we have now reached our target of £225,000, we still have some final repairs to the end of the hall to be made so a bit more money to raise but what a marvellous effort from band members and supporters to raise this amount in two years.’
Verwood Concert Brass are still looking for more ‘Superheroes’ – players AND supporters – and invite all to their next ‘Out Of This World’ experience at Verwood Methodist Church, Vicarage Road, Verwood BH31 6DR on Saturday 20th April 2024 at 7:30pm.
