Verwood Training Band were delighted to perform their Coffee Morning Concert on Saturday 17th November.

It was great to see so many people turn up to listen to the band whilst enjoying a cuppa and cake. As usual the Training Band served up a real treat with a great selection of music under the direction of conductor Mike Dunnings.

But the audience had an extra treat with a mini concert from our new starter group – “The Acorns” – or following their performance, now AKA – “The Mighty Acorns”. Well done to Bill Ferrier (Trombonist in the Verwood Concert Brass Band), who has only been tutoring the group for three weeks, for preparing these new young players for what was a terrific, lively and thoroughly enjoyable first performance, with hopefully many more to come.

With the Training Band open to all ages it is uplifting to see so many young and ‘not so young’ all enjoying making music together and who will hopefully go on to enjoy a lifetime of playing.

As announced a few weeks ago, sadly Pam Reeks, VCBs president, passed away and during her many years of involvement in the organisation it is recognised just how much Pam had done, in particular for the Training Band and generally with enthusing and encouraging players. It was therefore fitting that the Training Band played ‘Big Big World’ as a tribute to Pam as she has introduced so many players to that big, big (and wonderful) world of brass banding.

A big, big thank you Pam.
