It was great to see so many people come and support the Training Band and Acorns Group at the Coffee Morning Concert at the Verwood Memorial Hall on the morning on Saturday 16th November.

The Training Band’s opening number was ‘Let Me Entertain You’ by Robbie Williams, and they certainly lived up to that for the entire concert, playing a number of other rock, Disney and film theme tunes and even slipped in a couple of Christmas pieces too (It’s less than six weeks to go you know!).

As conductor Mike Dunnings explained, the band are taking part, for the very first time, in a full contest, that being the Wessex Brass Band Association Winter Contest on 30th November at Talbot Heath School. Therefore, this was a great opportunity to give their contest test piece a try out and the band played it really well putting them in a great place to put in a big performance on contest day. Here’s wishing them all the best for that.

The Coffee Morning Concert also included the now familiar couple of sets from the Mighty Acorns new starters group lead by Bill Ferrier. As per usual there were some great lively pieces with some audience participation and very well done to those players who took on the scary challenge of improvised playing during the Verwood Acorns Blues piece and also to Helena who played her Grade 1 exam solo piece ‘Morning Prayer’ absolutely superbly.

A big thank you to all the helpers who lent a hand in setting up and packing away, running the raffle, book and bric-a-brac stall and of course the refreshments and cakes. (Click Images to see enlarged photos)
